To begin your psychiatric treatment, we will start with an initial diagnostic evaluation and assessment, which will last approximately one hour. During this appointment, we’ll take time to get to know each other, review your psychiatric history, and discuss your current symptoms. We will also explore your mental health goals and collaborate on a personalized treatment plan designed to help you achieve these goals. This treatment plan may include psychiatric medications as well as other interventions such as supplements, lab work, lifestyle recommendations, and referrals.
Following the initial evaluation, we will schedule follow-up appointments every two weeks to three months, depending on your needs. These sessions typically last 30 minutes. If changes are made to your medication regimen, we’ll plan to meet monthly to closely monitor your progress and assess any effects from the adjustments.
Brief therapy is integrated into medication follow-up appointments. In some cases, I may offer therapy-only appointments on a case-by-case basis.
My therapeutic approach draws from evidence-based practices, including cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), mindfulness, grounding techniques, and dialectical behavior therapy (DBT). Since follow-up sessions are typically 30 minutes, I may recommend a referral to a trusted therapist colleague if more in-depth or specialized therapy is needed or requested.
By partnering with GeneSight, I provide genetic testing to guide medication treatment. This testing gives information about your specific genetic makeup and how your genes may interact with psychiatric medications. This information allows me to adjust the dose of a medication or make recommendations about which medications may work the best for your genetic makeup.
